Location: Sonoma, California | Hi again, I did this today. I mailed rice to the White House. Why? Why not? It is another way to say "please think again about what you are doing". If thousands of bags of rice come in, if the post office is bogged down, if the White House mailroom is bogged down, perhaps someone will take a look and wonder why. President Eisenhower each time turned to his aide and asked how many little bags of rice had come in. When told the numbers in the tens of thousands, Eisenhower told the generals that as long as so many Americans were expressing active interest in having the U.S. feed the Chinese, he certainly wasn’t going to consider using nuclear weapons against them.
In my opinion, it is not about sending the rice to Iraq, I don't think that will happen (and I didn't add that request to my package). What it is: a peaceful way to make your opinion known. And I respectfully ask, if you don't like this idea, please offer one of your own. Love, V |
