Location: Chicago, IL | When I was a child, I sometimes attended a Pentacostal church where people, mostly women, would foam at the mouth and then "speak in tongues." We were told that these women had gotten the holy ghost/holy spirit. Years later, in my study of this phenomenum, I discovered that this particular event occured on the 50th day of Jesus' resurrection and ascension, The Day of Pentecost. The apostles and disciples had gathered in a particular building in the 'upper room' and began to speak to the various groups of people gathered in the courtyard. Since there were Romans, Greeks, Jews, Aramaics, and a host of other nationalities, the Bible book of Acts says that those gathered in the upper room began to preach about the resurrected Christ to those gathered in the language that the various groups understood.
How it came down to this day that people are foaming at the mouth and saying all types of gibberish and supposedly under the influence of Spirit is just another example of how stuff gets totally twisted and misconstrued by certain people for various reasons. I would like to know what, if anything, Raj has said about this also. |
